NCC History

1901 - C M Philips, the acting principal of Raffles Institution formed the first Cadet Corps unit on 14 May.

1917 - Education authorities decided that Raffles Institution, St Joseph Institution, Anglo-Chinese School, St Andrew School, Outram Road School, and Victoria Bridge School would each form a cadet unit.

1948 - The Singapore Sea Cadet Corps was formed. The unit training syllabus was based on the UK Sea Cadet Corps programme.

1949 - The Air Cadet Training Corps was officially recognised on 14 July, when the Singapore Legislative Assembly passed the MATC Ordinance 1949 Bill.

1963 - Jurisdiction was transferred to the Education Ministry.

1965 - The Ministry of Education launched its Cadet Corps expansion programme to meet the demands of the Republic in preparation for National Service in 1967.

1967 - Formation of the first girls unit in girls and mixed secondary schools.

1969 - The land, sea, air and the police cadets were integrated under one organisation the National Cadet Corps.

1970 - The Police arm left the NCC to form the National Police Cadet Corps placed under the Ministry of Home Affairs whereas NCC continued under the Ministry of Defence.

1973 - The formation of the NCC Council in April and the NCC Act was passed by Parliament on 22 November.

1974 - The Ministry of Defence provided NCC with training centers and mobile training teams to train the cadets.

1999 - The NCC 21 Masterplan was launched by Mr Teo Chee Hean, Minister of Education, on 15 May.

2001 - Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, opened the new NCC Headquarters at Amoy Quee Camp on 30 May. The new headquarters witnessed the merger of the four separate NCC camps namely Springleaf Camp, Haig Road Camp, Pasir Panjang Camp and Jalan Teck Whye Camp.

2006 - 105th Anniversary Dinner and Award Presentation and the opening of the Motivation Hall by Mr Teo Chee Hean, Minister of Defence, on 9 September.
